MICRO GYRO SENSOR
By combined its expertise in crystal and QMEMS technology, EPSON TYOCOM develops gyroscopic sensors with compact size (5X3.2x1.3mm) and high stability (the characteristic of crystal), which can be widely used in many applications, including GPS, PND, Camera, Phone...etc.

Gyro sensor can be used in four types of applications:
1.    Detects whether an object is rotating or not.
2.    Detects which position an object is rotating toward.
3.    Measures the rotating speed (angular velocity) and position of an object.
4.    Measures the angular displacement of an object.

For the applications 1, 2, and 3, measuring an object’s angular velocityof rotation is simply using the feedback from the sensor minus the zero point, which can be measured when the sensor is still. This measurement can be used to determine the status and the position of the rotation.

For application 4, since speed is the rate of change in a unit of time during the angular displacement, the angular displacementcan be calculated by multiplied speed and time together, which is known as invers method. Thus, the total angular displacementcan be estimated by accumulated every calculation of angular displacementfrom average speed, calculated by regularly taken the sample data from the cycle, times the time length of the cycle.

Usually the function of GPS is affected by the environment or weather, and the satellite signal cannot always be received for positioning; especially in a bad weather or within a building. By the help from Acceleration sensor (provides moving distance), Gyro sensor (provides angular velocity), and Compass (provides adjustment), the Inertial Navigation System (INS) can be developed.
